Atri (TE) is one of the most ancient cities of Abruzzo adriatic region and of the whole centre of Italy. Called also " The Queen of The Hills" it is strategically located between the mountains and the seaside, in one of the most beautiful places in the area.
Hatria (taken from god Adrano) is rich in history and culture, it was founded by Piceni on 298 b.c. and it was the first roman fortress on Adriatic Sea. During the Middle Age it was in possession of Spoleto Dukedom, then of Aquaviva Family, of Borbone in the 18th century till it became a part of Italian Kingdom.
Among the most interesting monuments you can visit the Gothic and Romanic Basilica Assumption Cathedral dated 1284, Aquaviva Dukes Palace (14th century) which is The Town Hall today, The Municipal Theatre (1881), The Capitular Museum (1912) and The Roman Theatre.
